“Easy reading is damn hard writing.”

— Nathaniel Hawthorne

Poetry

The poet's indirect duty is to his audience, while his direct responsibility is to his language. Firstly, the poet preserves tradition, experiences, culture, and language. Secondly, the poet improves his/her writing. When writing, the poet captures a fraction of time and gives it momentum. The poet makes the experience more conscious, thereby allowing the reader to understand the humanity and importance of the poem. As an end result, the reader comes to an understanding of the human condition. Poet’s are the flashlight guiding the explorer in the dark.
